Hey, friends! I’m working through some glitches here on the blog and this morning’s email for my New Year’s post redirected to an old New Year’s post from a few years ago. It’s all fixed now so if you click the link in this morning’s email, it should take you to the correct post (the 2025 New Year, not 2021! 😅) Or you can just click this highlighted link here! Here’s to working out all the kinks in ‘25! 🤣 ... Read more
New Year’s Day 2025
I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Our daughter and son-in-law were in town for New Year's week, so we invited the grandparents to join us for a New Year's Day lunch. This was our New Year's Day table— natural country winter vibes. And this was our New Year's Day group! We made sure our meal included the customary pork, collards, and black-eyed peas, not so much for superstition but for good 'ole tradition. My husband grilled the pork, my daughter cooked the collard greens, and I made cheese grits, peas, and cornbread. I’ve got to share this new-to-me recipe for black-eyed peas because it was so good. I usually make black-eyed peas in ... Read more
And That’s a Wrap!
I love to wrap gifts! I think I get it from my mom because she always made gifts look so pretty with her handmade bows. And my sister, Allison, is the master of finding good deals at TJ Maxx and making them look like a million bucks with her lovely packaging. My sister, Katie, has always added a fun flare to her gifts with handcrafted pom poms and such. So, it just runs in the blood! I have loved wrapping gifts since I was a little girl, and my dream was to work at a store that had a gift-wrapping department. How cute. Well, that childhood dream came true in high school while I was working at Kirkland's. Does anyone remember when Kirkland's offered gift wrapping? It was a little room with ... Read more
Oh, Come Let us Adore….Baby Jeefus!
I had the sweetest experience Sunday morning while in our 2-year-old room at church. Through this month the children are learning about the birth of Christ and so there was a wooden manger in the classroom. There is just nothing sweeter than hearing little ones talk about the Baby Jesus, or as one tiny voice exclaimed, "Baby Jeefus!" "Our manger is empty! Who can help me find Baby Jesus to place in the manger?", I challenged during playtime. These sweet children--just babies themselves--scurried to the toy bins to be the first to retrieve a baby doll. We ended up with not one, but FOUR Baby Jeefuses! They cuddled, rocked, and kissed Baby Jesus. They placed him carefully in the ... Read more
Christmastime is Here
Merry Christmas! It’s here! We've been decorating inside and out, shopping for gifts, and the Christmas activities have begun! This past weekend we went to our downtown's Dickens Christmas and on Sunday night our church had its Christmas party, both of which were a lot of fun. Oh, and we are working our way through our Christmas movies lineup which is always one of our favorite parts of the holiday. Another exciting thing which has nothing to do with Christmas is that I got a new iPhone which is much faster and allows me to finally load my photos on my blog--yay! So, I thought I would jump back into blogging with some Christmas decorating. After two years of trying an artificial tree, ... Read more
The Art of Sourdough
I've been working on loading my vacation photos, but I have a lot, and my phone is slooowww right now, so today, just for fun, I thought I'd just share some sourdough loaf photos that I already had in my blog's media file. I have a lot of fun with sourdough and trying new shapes and designs has been a bit of a new hobby for me the past year. I feel as though I am using my art degree and feeding my family at the same time, ha! The above loaf can either be seen as Christmas trees or leaves--you decide! Below is a regular sourdough loaf with cherries, honey goat cheese, and dark chocolate folded in. This is a delicious breakfast loaf! I've also enjoyed making seasonal ... Read more
Virginia’s Autumn Foliage
Last week our family traveled through beautiful Virginia! We visited Williamsburg, Jamestown, Monticello, Mount Vernon, and Busch Gardens. We were also able to visit family which was the best treat of all. Next week I'll post more photos from each of our stops and visits (I have sooo many pics to sort through this week!) but for today, I just want to share some of the lovely fall foliage we enjoyed. I hope you're having a very happy and blessed autumn! I'll be back soon with lots of pictures and details from our week in Virginia. ... Read more
Girls’ Trip to Texas
Last week my daughter and I went to visit my married daughter in Texas and we had a lot of fun! Magnolia was beautiful, as always. I don't watch Chip and Joanna's show so I don't know much about them and therefor wouldn't really call myself a fan, but I do enjoy visiting Magnolia. We went for a couple of hours one morning to do a little walking around and grab some lunch from the food truck. The pizza is our favorite! The shops are a little expensive, so we didn't buy anything, but all of their products are beautiful! And they even had some Christmas items out which was exciting. Before leaving we got some refreshment from the coffee shop! Next, we went to ... Read more
