The Ways of Her Home

Embracing the homeward call

Valentine Hoop Wreaths

January 30, 2020

My hands worked on a new craft this week! I’d been seeing the elegant hoop wreaths around the internet and couldn’t wait to make one…..or several.

My supplies were simple and inexpensive.

Gold hoop rings: I ordered a set of 4 rings (2 big, 2 small) from Amazon for $10. Walmart also carries them for $2 or $3 a piece in their floral department.

Florals– The possibilities are endless here! Just get what you love! I found my florals at Walmart. They have some really good looking artificial florals these days. The picks I got were anywhere from $1.47 to $4. I also used some felt roses from Dollar General that you’ll see further down the post.

Ribbon– Use whatever you like here, but don’t go too wide or chunky, because it will overpower the delicate ring!!

Floral tape and/or hot glue
–
Use the tape sparingly and only in places that will hide behind a flower or leaf. You definitely don’t want this showing. Use the hot glue to secure anything that might still be too loose.

I love how this first one turned out! I chose florals that would be sweet and pinky for Valentine’s, but carry through spring: Eucalyptus ($2.99), two stems of fanny rose (@ $1.47/stem=$2.94), one stem of mini cabbage rose ($4.00/ stem, but I took the stem apart and only used half so only $2 worth), the ring ($2.50), and cream ribbon I already had. So I spent a total of $10.43 plus tax! I know this wreath would cost way more than that if I’d purchased it already made. Hmm, maybe I should open an Etsy store, ha!

I hung it on the old decoration window in my front hall, and with my green curtains, my hallway now has a whisper of spring on its way!

After I made the first one, my daughter and I tried out the smaller rings for some more casual and simple felt rose wreaths. These were fun! I had 2 packs of felt roses from Dollar General and we chose ribbon from my stash. So these next two wreaths cost about $3.50 each. I made one with a cluster of red, pink, and white felt roses and pink gingham ribbon for a distinctively Valentine wreath, and hung it in the kitchen. So cute. So happy!

My daughter wanted a very simple little cluster of pink and white roses to match this blue floral ribbon that we’ve had for several years. She hung it on her bedroom door. I love how it turned out, and adore that her hands made it. A girl decorating her own bedroom is learning how to one day decorate her own home. She’ll have a lovely home one day.

I also freshened up my “Transitional Wreath” for my front door, but since it’s not a hoop wreath, I’ll save it for another post.
Have a beautiful day, friends!
