The Ways of Her Home

Embracing the homeward call

The Transitional Wreath

September 11, 2019

I love a wreath! I love front doors and porches and the welcome they offer. A pretty wreath and swept porch communicate to our guests that we’re anticipating their visit and we’re celebrating the current season!

Being in between seasons can sometimes create the dilemma of not knowing what to display at our home’s entrance. Currently, we’re transitioning from summer to fall. Nobody is more ready for fall decorating than my girls and me! We delight in the rich oranges, browns, and plums of autumn. But with temperatures still in the high nineties (blahhh), I’m just not feeling pumpkins and mums yet. But I’m also so ready to move on from summer. Really really ready.

My solution: TRANSITIONAL WREATH

A basic wreath with some simple greenery is lovely on its own year round, but easily tweaked for any occasion with the addition of a few seasonal picks!

I recently freshened up the greenery on my wreath with some artificial eucalyptus and lambs ear branches from Walmart. Walmart has really stepped up their artificial florals, y’all!

For late summer, a few lemons tucked around the burlap bow were quite cute! But now that it’s September, I’ve removed those for just the neutral greens and burlap tan. 1B27C931-6CE5-4935-A822-049BEF1EA9AD

On the first day of fall (with great rejoicing) I’ll add in some small white pumpkins!!! I do realize I could go ahead and do this now, but the girls and I have a tradition of putting out our pumpkiny things on the official first day of fall.

I have other wreaths on standby for late fall and winter, but next spring this one will be fresh and happy with a few spring flowers slipped in the lambs ear. One wreath with endless possibilities!

One more wreath I’ve changed out recently is this one (below) in my hallway. I love this little wreath hanging in this window. Isn’t it sweet! I change it out seasonally too, and usually have a cotton wreath hanging here for fall. I’m using that wreath in another room right now so I needed a new one for this hallway.

Again, I found the greenery at Walmart. I have no idea what to call these little ball flowers?? But they’re cute!

So this wreath will be in my hallway until I put up Christmas decorations. And I can’t believe I just mentioned Christmas!

Hope you’re having a blessed week, friends!

Wreaths are RIDICULOUSLY expensive. And often they don’t make it past the season due to heat and sun. I’m definitely checking out this greenery at Walmart!

Isn’t that the truth! It’s outrageous what pre-made wreaths cost. Unless they are on major sale, I have to make my own.

I love your wreath! I put out my fall decorations over Labor Day weekend; even though it’s technically still summer (both on the calendar and on the thermometer!) I just can’t resist breaking out the decor for my favorite season.

Yay for your fall wreath, Lisa! I can’t wait to see it. Just the other day I was actually remembering a cute spring wreath you had out one year. I like your sense of style! Happy fall!!!
