Good Tuesday morning! Today I want to share a coloring book that I used with my kids for many years. It’s Shirley Dobson’s My Bible Coloring Book. This recommendation is not just for moms, but would also be great to have on hand if you’re a grandmother, aunt, babysitter, or Bible class teacher!
It covers 119 Bible stories with a coloring page and scripture reference for each Bible story. It’s a fun way to go through the entire Bible with children. For my pre-readers or new readers, I would either tell them the story or read it from a beginner’s Bible and then let them color the picture. Later, when they were independent readers, I would cycle the coloring book again, having them read the story from their own Bibles, and then give them the coloring sheet. This past year I would leave my son a sticky note on his bedroom door with his Bible reading assignment for the morning. His alarm would go off and he would get his note off the door and know what to read for his quiet time before getting ready for the day. He liked the big boy responsibility and independence this gave him in his Bible study.
Then his coloring sheet would be waiting at the breakfast table (copied on a loose piece of paper because it was easier to color flat). After breakfast and his morning chores, it was there for him to work on while I finished up a few morning tasks before we started school (in other words, it bought me a few more minutes!). The completed coloring pages would go into a notebook binder so he would have the whole collection of Bible coloring sheets from Genesis to Revelation. Both he and my younger daughter cycled this coloring book twice. I copied the cover of the coloring book and slipped it into the plastic pocket of the binder so it was like a book they could flip through and recount the stories.
Occasionally I find one of those old sticky notes tucked away in my son’s room. Here are a couple that I’ve attached back on the Bible story they went with. Now I wish I’d saved them all.
I tried to include a question or two for him to have in mind while he read the story in hopes that it would engage him more in the reading. Sometimes there were family jokes incorporated in the note. If you know what television show the “Lydia” reference below is from, let me know in the comments! Otherwise, I’m sure it will seem weird to you.
What really tickled me was when he would add his own captions to the coloring page. It’s hard to see in the photo below but he added the words of God, “Saul, Saul, why are you percicuting me?” (Spelling, haha!)
In addition to using this resource at home, there have been numerous times I’ve needed a coloring sheet to go with a lesson for children’s Bible class and it was so convenient to be able to flip through the book and find what I needed.

I love this so much!! What a great way to teach children at a young age the importance of starting your day in Gods’s Word.

Thank you, Rivers! And I know you’ve been teaching your girls the very same. 📖❤️
It also trains them to take ownership of their Bible study and walk with the Lord.
