Y’all, we have another senior! My kids are growing up! For those of you who also have a senior this year (or any high schooler), I’m just popping on here to pass on some information that was very helpful to us recently.
Last spring, in preparation for this schoolyear and figuring out what courses she should take her senior year, we talked with our daughter a lot about her future after graduation. If she had some ideas of what she would like to do, she could select senior courses that would benefit her in her future pursuits. We found out about the Career Direct website and survey which helps you narrow down your fields of interest, and spent a Saturday afternoon helping her complete a very long survey. There are a few survey packages to choose from and we chose the “Detailed” for $80. It was definitely worth the time and money. And it was actually fun too.
At the end of the survey, we received a very long report telling us what fields of work would best suit her personality, talents, and interests. Some of the feedback we were expecting, and some came as a surprise but made total sense. So, for our daughter, it all boiled down to the following areas that would be ideal for her: Pet/vet care, athletics, children with special needs, outdoors, Bible, missions, foreign language, reading, art, predictable routine, organized workspace, quiet environment. Then it gave career options in those fields.
This information has helped give her some direction for her senior year and beyond. And this isn’t just for high school students either! The survey is also helpful for adults looking to change career paths.
Alright, enough talk about the schoolyear. For now, let’s get back to soaking up summer!
