Hello, old friends! It’s been a while. It was a busy spring and now we’re moving into summer, ready or not. I’m ready. Spring brought soccer season, travel to DC to see our nation’s capital and visit family, the end of another school year for both my son and my daughter who works at a preschool, two trips to Texas, annnnd a new baby boy born to my daughter and son-in-law in May! He’s the sweetest little thing and my daughter and SIL are just the best new parents! I won’t be posting pictures of him here so if you’d like to know what he looks like, just imagine the most beautiful baby boy ever and there you have it! Parents and baby are doing well, and we are so thankful to add this precious little bundle to the family!

In other news, during the winter months we had a pool put in our backyard! This is something I had prayed about for several years and maybe I’ll do another post sometime on how that all came about. But for now, I’ll share a couple of photos of what everything looks like.

Since our fence was rotting and not salvageable, we had a new one put up and while doing so had the garden area extended. The rest of the yard got sod, but this area got a load of gravel spread instead. I love this space! It’s my happy place. Having the garden fenced was essential for two reasons: the dogs and the deer.

We are enjoying our new outdoor spaces during the day, but the evenings have a whole different vibe which I love so I’m including some pics from an evening we went out after supper.

The garden has already grown more since these photos were taken. Every day it changes

My daughter had surgery in Birmingham last Friday and after that and all the events of spring, whew we’re tired! I have nothing on the calendar this week so we’re going to hide out here at home and chill a bit, take some naps, pick up the house and clean out the garden, catch up on laundry, and also do a lot of relaxing! I’m sure I’ll get in the pool too because I’ve only been in that pool for a grand total of…….ONE time! Can you believe it? It’s so funny because everyone says, “How are you enjoying that new pool?” and I tell them I’ll let them know soon.
So, this is where I’ll be this summer—in the backyard. No big plans unless we get to go back to Texas to visit our daughter and son-in-law and hug on our precious new grandson! Otherwise, we keep summers slow and low key, just the way we like it.

What a beautiful yard! Your work is evident. Now you can sit back and enjoy it! I’ll bet nights out back are especially enjoyable.
Thank you, Missy! Yes, the evenings are really nice. And the early mornings too! There’s been more work involved that sitting time, but I think it’s at the point now of being established enough that the maintenance will be less and I can sit and enjoy more. Hoping!
Wow! The garden and the pool look beautiful! What a dreamy summer. Sitting by your veggies and soaking up the sun in the water.❤️
The sitting part will certainly be dreamy when I get there, haha! There will always be the work part to keep it all maintained (I will say though that I looove working in the garden). So the management of the pool, yard, and garden definitely have to happen before we can sit and enjoy it. It’ll be a nice reward for our work though!
Wow! Your backyard is beautiful! Definitely looks like the perfect place to spend a relaxing summer!
I know you can’t wait to get back to visit your adorable grandson again. I hope your daughter’s surgery went well.
Her surgery went well and she’s recovering well. This was her 3rd surgery and hopefully her last.
Oh my, yes, I cannot wait to see them again! From the pics my daughter is sending us, the baby is growing so fast!!
I am so glad everything is going well for her recovery.
Awe, I bet he is growing fast. Sweet boy!
Thank you, Heidi! I hope your summer is off to a great start!
Beautiful and relaxing with a raised bed of gorgeous colorful zinnias….just like I like it!! Not to mention that sweet baby boy….our first ” great grand!” Blessings!
YES! When summertime welcomes both zinnias AND a precious baby boy, well that’s a lovely season indeed!! Of course, baby boy is our sweetest blessing, and the zinnias are a really nice bonus. 😉
Alinda! Your back yard looks just beautiful!😍 I know y’all are going to enjoy that pool so much and your garden space is just perfect! Love the space at night too!
Thank you, Kelli! We still need to get some pool furniture and maybe put out some pots of flowers around the pool, but I don’t really feel rushed to do so. LOVED getting to see your sweet girls last week! Missed seeing you but I’m looking forward to getting together with you sometime this summer!!
