Did anyone see the strawberry moon this week? I found out about it Tuesday evening so I looked it up and its peak was to be around 3:00 the next morning. There was a time when my kids were younger and all 3 of them homeschooling that we would have set an alarm, gotten up, thrown some quilts on the grass and made hot chocolate for a middle-of-the-night astronomy show! Well, I’m not saying those days are totally gone, but seeing as how there seems to be some kind of special moon every few months, I decided to let this one quietly pass while I slumbered.
That is until 1:17 a.m.
Barney was on the back porch and started barking and whining so I went out to see what was going on with him. As soon as I opened the back door I was immediately struck by how light the sky was and then I remembered the strawberry moon. Even though it wasn’t the peak time yet, boy was it bright!

You can see how it almost looked like early morning, and the birds were even chirping which I’m pretty sure is the reason Barney was up and at ’em! He’s used to getting up with Joel and me and the birds, so he thought it was morning and wondering what was taking us so long to get moving.

I love the reflection on the pool in the photo above, and in the one below you can see how blue the sky was.

The moon wasn’t red but had a faint pink tint to it—very whitish pink and BRIGHT. Even looking in the opposite direction from the moon you can see how illuminated the sky was throughout the neighborhood and all this in the middle of the night!

It was so beautiful and peaceful and I thanked God for waking me to see it. And I wouldn’t normally thank Barney for waking me up at 1:17 a.m. but I didn’t mind this time.

How beautiful!! Do you have an app that gives you these updates? I need to know when to set my alarm!
I don’t but what a great idea! I’ll look into that. Maybe we could get our kiddos together to watch the next one. Well, if it’s not at 3 in the morning! 🤣
