The Ways of Her Home

Embracing the homeward call

Snapshot Saturday: Soaking Up Autumn

November 12, 2022

Good morning and happy weekend! Boy, these weeks sure pass quickly, don’t they? I’m soaking up as much of autumn as I can because it’ll be gone before we know it.

This week we’ve been doing a lot of work inside and outside in preparation for some upcoming gatherings and just the holidays in general. It’s exciting how close we are to the holidays!

We have our daughter’s soccer team coming this weekend and our life group coming next week. It’s so much fun entertaining outside during the fall evenings so we’re trying to finish some areas for sitting and doing activities.

While working last weekend I noticed this fungus on a tree. Isn’t it interesting! My friend told me it’s called Lion’s Mane so of course I had to look it up and find out more about it. It’s a culinary mushroom and it’s endangered. I don’t know how it ended up in my backyard, ha!

It’s been hard to get in date nights lately, so one evening my husband and I shared some sushi down by the creek and talked for a while. I think I enjoyed this sweet setting every bit as much as having dinner at a restaurant. Maybe more.

I’m in a ladies’ small group called “Gather Around the Table” and it meets every other week with a theme for the meal. This week’s theme was “fall favorites” so I took a cheese platter with cranberry apple chutney. Be watching for the recipe soon!

We also tried a new Mediterranean restaurant this week and it was so delicious! Have you eaten at Cava? The food there is so fresh. We will definitely go back!

With the time change I’ve gone back to taking my morning walks earlier and it’s been glorious!

I love all the whispers of fall along the way.

My sweet Pumpkin girl waits for me at the window until I come home. Look at that little face. Oh, she’s cutest!

….and the chubbiest! My PLUMPkin!

And I can’t forget Floyd! He’s crazy but he’ll always stop for snuggles. He so funny–one of his many nicknames is “lemur” because of his long, striped tail!

How was your week? Any big plans for the weekend?

Can’t wait to see your new creek setup in person. It looks so cozy! We love Cava! Next time you go, stop in and see me, too close not to! I am not a cat person, but Pumpkin waiting for you in the window is just the cutest!

Funny you should ask about weekend plans!
We are hosting our sweet life group for Sunday lunch! Such a blessing to be able to gather around our table(s) and share the hand of hospitality and friendship to those who are like family to us!
An added blessing has been from working in our newly created backyard planting areas
