Happy September, y’all! I love the start to a new month, don’t you? Our Septembers here in Alabama are always still pretty warm, but this week the temps dropped a *few* degrees and we’re seeing subtle signs of fall on the horizon! There’s something about this time of year that the animals seem to have an extra spring in their step so I’m beginning with our crazy pets.
Miss Liberty Loohoo
This cutie pie puppy dog is growing so fast! We’ve had some beautiful days outside this week and she’s really enjoying playing in the yard.
Lady Pumpercot
Sweet Pumpkin has been a more playful cat now that she has another kitty to run around with which means she needs more naps, ha. My daughter’s shaggy bean bag is one of her favorite slumber spots.
Big Barn
Barney Boy does NOT like for me to take his picture, so I don’t have many photos of him. It so funny–when he sees the phone held in front of him, he looks away and down. I was playing with him out in the yard one day and managed to snap a photo when he wasn’t expecting it. He’s such a good boy! Mostly.
Lord Floyd
The cats and I have a little silent battle over this spot by the window. They always want my chair during the morning when the sunlight comes in the kitchen window and will wait beside it for me to get up. Floyd is quick and will snatch my chair in a milli second. I got up to sharpen my pencil and when I turned back around, he’d already claimed my seat and was pretending to be asleep as if I wouldn’t notice!
Dinner with Friends
I’ve made it a goal to be more intentional with my friendships this year, especially with those I don’t see on a regular basis anymore. I had two sweet friends over for dinner Monday night while Joel and the kids were out, and we enjoyed a simple supper of soup and mocha brownies. The mocha brownies were a new recipe which I’ll post soon. They were pretty rich and just the chocolate fix we ladies needed!
First Pumpkin Beverage of the Season!
September 1st is the new October 1st! I used to make myself wait until October to start pumpkin everything, but I’ve decided that is just unreasonable, haha, and on the first day of September I was picking up an iced pumpkin chai from Dunkin while running errands. Ahh, so nice to have that fall flavor back!
Back-to-School Care Package
My married daughter begins her new job teaching K-4 next week! I’m so proud of her and excited for her. Her room is all ready, and she already loves the other teacher she’ll be working with. I sent her an apple-themed care package which included apple lunch bags, a wooden apple, apple cider tea, an apple candle, and Meyer’s apple dish soap. I miss my girl and how excited we would all get over the first apple-scented products each year, but we can still enjoy the season together long-distance!
And by the way, September is APPLE MONTH, so I’ll be posting lots of apple stuff this month!
Pumpkin Update
The pumpkin patch has benefited from last week’s rain but not from the deer! While we’ve seen a few more baby pumpkins this week, about half the patch has had its leaves munched off by deer from the woods. We put out chunks of Irish Springs soap which seemed to ward off the deer last year but isn’t working as well this year. So, it’s back to the drawing board. Any suggestions?
September Mornings
This is one of my favorite months for morning walks. It’s dark when I start and light when I get home which means I watch the whole sunrise! It’s still pretty warm and humid in the mornings with the rare exception of one morning that was actually 67 degrees!
I hope your September is off to a wonderful start! I always enjoy blogging in September and hope to hop on here a good bit. Happy weekend!
