Our neighborhood puts on the best fireworks display each July 4th! And since so many neighbors around us shoot their own fireworks now, Crazy Joel has retired from his yearly shows, and we just enjoy everyone else’s! It works out pretty well for us, haha.
This year our friends walked over to eat hotdogs and watch fireworks with us. It was the best night!

We let the kids swim while we waited for it to get dark. Joel and I commented to each other the next morning about how sweet it was to hear so many happy little voices in our pool.

My son enjoyed grilling with Joel and I think he now has a new hobby. We had a couple of kinds of hotdogs with toppings and our friends brought chips and watermelon.

The watermelon was the nummiest of all! Look at this sweet baby!

The evening started out pretty hot but as the sun went down it was more pleasant.

We were going to move our adirondak chairs to the front because we usually watch the fireworks from our driveway, but there were so many households doing their fireworks this year (including our next-door neighbors shooting them in their backyard just over our fence) that we were able to enjoy the show from our own backyard.

The kids were pretty tickled that they were able to watch the fireworks from the swimming pool!

It was all just magical!!

I love how the photo below looks like a swarm of fireflies in the sky!

The sky was so smokey in between explosions.

Later in the evening I served homemade ice cream (recipe to come) and we had some sparklers for the kiddos.

Then it was back in the pool for our little swimmers!

And more fireworks!

What a fun night! It’s a blessing to live in the good ‘ole USA!
I debated this week over whether or not to even post pictures from our special evening considering the tragedy that occurred on July 4th for those in Texas. It has been so heartbreaking to hear the details and updates this week on so many lives lost. This blog is a sort of life journal for me and if there is one thing I take from these tragic events it’s that we should hold our people and our memories close. So, I’m recording a sweet summer evening with friends that I want to cherish for years to come.

It’s a joy to have your family! Joel and I were commenting on how polite and thankful your kids always are for any little thing we do. ❤️

What a wonderful night! The fireworks look like they were incredible.
It definitely was the best year yet for neighborhood fireworks! They seem to get bigger and bigger every year. I hope your family had a nice 4th!!
Beautiful photos!! And yes, time with precious family members (and friends) is my happy place in addition to my relationship with Christ. Dad will frequently ask me what I want to do for an occasion. It’s always the same….”Have the family over!!”
We definitely have much to be thankful for! And I’m glad you enjoyed the photos! I’ve had fun looking through them. Good times!
