My apologies if I’ve put a certain song in your head now just after reading the title of this blog, but we had a lot of changes around here lately, so I’ve been singing this tune all week, haha.
Sunrises
I’ll start with a snapshot of something that does and doesn’t change: the sunrise. I walk most weekday mornings and I snap a photo of the sunrise almost every time because each morning’s sunrise is unique from the previous day’s and the next day’s. Some sunrises are bright and fiery, some are soft and purple, and some are muted with fog. But what doesn’t change is the fact that the sun does still rise EVERY day! That’s because it’s kept in motion by an unchanging Creator. God says in the Bible, “I am the Lord, I do not change.” (Malachi 3:6) What a comforting truth!

Mystery Snail
One of the many blessings I enjoy during my morning walks are the creatures I often encounter–deer, rabbits, birds, foxes, insects (and yes, sometimes snakes which are not blessings. Sorry) –and this week I noticed this big boy by the curb. Actually, I almost stepped on him because I wasn’t wearing my glasses and thought he was a leaf at first glance. For perspective, he and his shell were longer than my hand! I posted a photo on my stories in Instagram because I’d never seen one and a friend messaged me a photo of the same type of snail saying that they had just seen one for the first time this summer as well and were also wondering what it was. So, if any of you have any idea, let me know!

The Newlyweds Move to Texas!
The newlyweds have been back in town after their honeymoon but left Wednesday to make their big move to the Lone Star State! Monday night we grilled and invited the grandparents for dinner to visit before the big move and we enjoyed a nice evening together. Tuesday night my husband and I took all the kids (newlywed kids included) to dinner at my daughter’s favorite local restaurant in our little downtown where they serve some of the best Cajun shrimp and grits anywhere!
After dinner we walked around and took family photos at several of our favorite spots. The thunder was beginning to rumble letting us know we were about to get poured on, but I made everyone quickly stop for photos and we got back in the van just before the bottom fell out. We went home and sat around, talking and eating the last of the leftover wedding cake from the freezer. Sweet times.
The next morning the newlyweds finished packing their cars and some of my daughter’s sweet friends stopped by for one last goodbye. I cooked a big breakfast before they got on the road, and they rolled out about 11:00 on to their new adventure! Since arriving they’ve been unpacking and sending photos of their new apartment which they’ve already transformed into their comfy, cozy home-sweet-home. My husband and I really are so excited for them. More on that in another post.

New Garden
Last year I asked my husband to add a fence to our side yard to mark off a garden area that the dog couldn’t access. I planted just a few things for the time being but this year I’m ready to totally transform the area and make it a beautiful garden. My brother is an architect and is also very gifted in the landscape department so when he was last at my house, I asked him to help me map out a plan for the garden and he quickly sketched out a fantastic design! This past week I cleared out the area of all plants, pots, materials, etc and my husband and I went to Lowe’s and purchased plants for what I’m calling “Phase 1”.

Meet Floyd!
Yes, we got a new kitten! My son was in need of a little buddy, so Floyd (named after Floyd the barber in the Andy Griffith Show) is actually his cat, but of course all of the family is enjoying him! He’s so cute and hilarious and lively! The only sad thing about the situation is that we were trying to get him before my daughter moved so she could meet him, but after several days of hurdles, we finally got the call to come get him right after the newlyweds left to go to Texas. While the timing was a little sad for my married daughter who wanted to see him before leaving, it ended up being a good boost for my other 2 kids who were a little down over their sister moving. I feel bad sending her photos of the kitty but also want to keep her in the loop. And there will be no shortage of snapshots of Firecracker Floyd!

Big Sister Blues
Pumpkin was not too enthusiastic about losing her “only cat” status, but I read up ahead of time on how to successfully incorporate a new kitty into the home and make both cats friends. They are not besties yet, but there is much improvement already. The first night I held Pumpkin before bed, and I think she was actually crying in my arms! It was a low moan/groan, and it was funny, sad, and a tad creepy. The next day she was fine again, so I guess she just had to have a good cry and get it out of her system like a lot of us ladies have to do sometimes. She still has big girl privileges that baby brother doesn’t yet get like playing monopoly with the family. Y’all, this cat LOVES game night!

sewprissymissy
How fun! Such a full week. I can’t wait to see more about your new garden space!
Alinda
Thanks, Missy! We’re about to start working on Phase 1 this morning before the rain comes in this afternoon so I’m sure I’ll be posting some updates in next week’s snapshots. Hope you have a nice weekend!
