The Ways of Her Home

Embracing the homeward call

Snapshot Saturday

July 23, 2022

Hello! I don’t have too many photos to share from this week. Covid went through our household which meant plans were cancelled for the week and my husband worked from home. Thankfully, we all had mild cases with just cold-like symptoms so we were able to get a pretty good bit of work done at home.

Yard Work

I took this picture the day after Joel tested positive for Covid. He can’t be kept down for long. Incidentally, his shirt (a t-shirt my daughter gave him) says “The Man, The Myth, The Legend”. I think he’s living up to that!

*****

The Big Summer Cleanout!

Every summer the kids and I do a major cleaning out of all rooms, closets, cabinets, and drawers. Since we were sick, we worked during the hours we felt well enough and stopped to rest or nap as needed. We didn’t get everything done on the list, but I’m pleased with how much we did get done considering! Hoping to get the rest finished next week.

*****

The End of an Era

My son lost 2 teeth in one week! These are his last baby teeth so the Tooth Fairy in this house is about to hang up her wings and wand (actually, he’s always “known” but we’ve still left a little something to celebrate the milestone of another tooth lost). The last couple of years I’ve had fun planning silly surprises like a scavenger hunt to find his money, or having the dog enter his room early in the morning with the money tied to his collar. It’s usually just a couple of one-dollar bills for a tooth, but this time around my son kept hinting that two teeth should bring in a hefty profit, and since it was our last tooth fairy visit ever, he got $5 and some candy.

*****

Hawaiian Hazelnut Coffee

The hubs and I have cut way back on coffee creamers and sweeteners, but in order to do so, we’ve found that we like a better-quality coffee if we’re going to drink it near-black (we haven’t gone totally black yet!) It means spending a little more on coffee, but since we’re cutting back on our creamer it’s all even cost-wise. We’ve always been big hazelnut fans, so I thought this Hawaiian Hazelnut from Fresh Market would be a nice summery version of our old favorite. It is so good! The added flavor of coconut is such a nice compliment to the hazelnut.

*****

Coffee Note Sabotage

I keep a ceramic dry-erase plaque next to our coffee maker so I can leave a note for my husband when he gets his coffee in the morning. We call them “coffee notes”. My son thinks it’s hilarious to sabotage my notes and change the wording or add a silly picture. One morning I simply wrote, “My Hero” and drew a heart. My son snuck in and changed it to “My Flubber”! 😂LOL (can you guess what movie we recently watched?) I have to admit, it does make my husband and me laugh to see what he writes, but don’t tell my son!

*****

Foggy Morning Valley

The mornings are humid and warm lately but still so pretty. This particular morning there was a soft ribbon of fog running through the valley. Such a peaceful start to the day.

Seeing Double?

No, you’re not! The dog on the right is my daughter’s little Liberty Belle, but the dog on the left is her sister! Two weeks after we adopted Liberty, my sister contacted the same dog breeder and adopted one of her sisters from the same litter. She named her Lucy. It’s going to be so much fun to see them play together from time to time. Aren’t they so sweet!

We’ll, that’s it for this week. Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you all have a great weekend!

Glad the covid has not kept y’all down much! That coffee looks delish! I wish I could drink mine black, but alas, it is more of a dessert. Hope y’all feel 💯% soon!

Lol, like I said, it’s just near-black! 😂 But I’m finding that I don’t have to have flavored creamers every time (although I love them so much 😩) I’m liking a little half and half just fine as long as the coffee is a good one and Hawaiian Hazelnut a good one!
