The Ways of Her Home

Embracing the homeward call

Smoked Salmon Spread

December 16, 2019

Smoked Salmon Spread is a tasty appetizer I like to sit out as guests are arriving when we hosts Christmas parties. I also take this to the Christmas supper my mother-in-law hosts on Christmas night where we all bring party foods (we eat Christmas lunch at my mom’s). I love this stuff! It’s great year around, but I find myself mostly making it during the holidays.

Smoked Salmon Spread

This recipe is from Ina Garten. I purchase my smoked salmon from Costco, and usually double this recipe so we have plenty left to snack on for a few days after Christmas.

Ingredients:

8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature

1/2 cup sour cream

1 Tbsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice

1 Tbsp. minced fresh dill

1 tsp. prepared horseradish, drained

1/2 tsp. kosher salt

1/4 tsp. freshly ground pepper

1/4 pound  (4 oz) smoked salmon, minced

Cream the cheese with an electric mixer until smooth. Add the sour cream, lemon juice, dill, horseradish, salt, and pepper, and mix. Fold in the smoked salmon. Chill and serve with crackers. I like the Carr brand crackers best with this spread!

Because the salmon is already smoked and needs no prep ahead of time, this spread comes together pretty quickly. I’m not usually a horseradish fan, but wow! It is so delicious combined with the salmon, lemon, and dill flavors!

This would also be a festive dip to serve for New Year’s Eve as well. But right now, I’ll just stay focused on getting through Christmas, and tomorrow I’ll be back with the recipe that my mom and I claimed to be our favorite new Christmas dessert last year! You don’t want to miss it!

  1. Easy Crudité and Charcuterie Boards for New Year’s Snacking – The Work of Her Hands says:
    December 29, 2020 at 10:34 am

[…] A Crudités Board is typically veggies and dips only. I’ve been adding just a little fruit and nuts to ours lately, but the emphasis is still very much on the veggies.Veggies can include just about any you like and are usually served raw, but for the firmer veggies such as green beans, asparagus, carrots, snap peas, etc., I blanch them in boiling for just about a minute. Dips can include hummus, ranch, French onion, smoked salmon, vinaigrettes, etc. Pictured here are hummus and smoked salmon dip. […]
