The Ways of Her Home

Embracing the homeward call

Savvy Finds and Summer Faves

June 18, 2019

I really appreciate when other bloggers share their best finds and fun favorites of a given season. So that’s what I’m doing today! I’m calling this my “Savvy Finds and Summer Faves”.

I’ll start with the whole lemon craze!

Artificial Lemons:

I’m not one to jump too deep into a trend because by the time there’s a place for it in my budget, I’m already tired of seeing it on Instagram.

I’ve always liked lemons and the freshness they represent, but they are everywhere! So I’m using them cautiously as small accents that can easily be stored away later without losing a huge investment. I purchased a bag of plastic lemons at Hobby Lobby for $10. I added some to an old wreath, and the rest to a teapot arrangement I already had in my kitchen.

Patriotic Table Runner:

I’d seen a really cute, but simple, patriotic runner at Target for $17. I didn’t want to pay that much, so I passed it up. I’m glad I did, because I found the one above at Dollar General for $6! It’s good quality and washes easily.

Ring POPsicle Molds:

When I saw these molds for popsicles that can be worn as ring pops, I knew they would be a hit with my little guy and his buddies this summer. He could not wait to try them out, and eats one almost every afternoon. They are so cute! I can’t remember exactly how much they cost, but I got them from Dollar General so it wasn’t more than a dollar or two.

And since we’re talking popsicles…

Blackberry Ginger Lemonade:

Frios is such a refreshing treat in the summertime! They are pricey so we don’t go often, but when we do, we’re never disappointed. And they have a ticket you can get punched to earn a free popsicle. I usually choose the creamier popsicles, but I recently tried their Blackberry Ginger Lemonade! Ok, two words: NEW. FAVORITE.

Rolling Cooler Bag:

Piano Girl gave me this amazing rolling cooler bag from Home Goods for Mother’s Day, and I’m wondering where it’s been all my life. It has been a huge relief for carrying chilled food to gatherings, going to an outdoor concert, and making trips to the pool. I can get snacks and drinks in the bottom, and there’s still room for a stack of folded pool towels inside. All the outer pockets and straps hold our sunscreen, hand gel, cell phone, paper towels, and pool key. I keep it by the garage door and it’s just ready to roll out as we head to the pool!

Health and Beauty Products:

I don’t think I’ve ever posted anything on health and beauty products, but I have three items I’m finding so helpful this summer!

Included in a Mother’s Day treat my mom gave me were Hibiscus & Pink Clay Facial Wipes from Dollar Tree. They have the loveliest and most pleasing aroma! I use them to wipe my face as I come in from pool or yard work, covered with sunscreen and grimy sweat, if it’s going to be a while before I can shower.

For keeping my feet soft all summer and feeling like I paid for a pedicure, I’m loving the Avon Footworks Overnight Renewing Cream. Friends, this stuff works! I order it through a friend who is a representative with Avon. If you need a rep, I’d be happy to share her name and info.

And finally, my favorite sunscreen for the second summer in a row, is Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch. I don’t use this on the kids; this is Mom’s (They prefer the spray sunscreen anyway). Last year I also used their facial sunscreen because it was also non-sticky and smooth, but I haven’t been able to find it in my stores so far.

And the grand finale is……

Cantaloupe Ice Cream!!!

Yesterday the kids and I made our annual summer trip to a peach park for fresh peaches and ice cream. I had always, ALWAYS gotten their peach ice cream and nothing else because, after all, it’s a peach park! But last year, curiosity and a teeny little sample of the cantaloupe ice cream changed my loyalties in a millisecond. There’s no going back! It’s so good—mildly creamy and light with a distinct cantaloupe flavor and chunks of cantaloupe. I enjoyed it again this year and think I’ll experiment with making some at home this summer. I’ll let you know how it goes.

So, I’d love to hear from you!! What are your savvy finds and summer faves right now?

I love seeing all your summer faves! You might try Amazon for your face sunscreen. I use the Neutrogena face sunscreen and get mine on Amazon.
