The Ways of Her Home

Embracing the homeward call

Random Thoughts on a Tuesday Morning (because I’m in my 50s!)

March 17, 2026

Hello, friends! I will be moving back to posting mostly on this blog account, The Ways of Her Home, since that seems to be the format that most of you say is easier to follow. Thank you for your input! My other blog, Her Lovely Common Life, will remain live for now and I might end up bringing some of those post over here eventually.

For today, I just have some random thoughts to share. These are typed with a spirit of humor and yes honesty too, but definitely not any snark, so I promise this isn’t just a grumpy rant, but more of a lighthearted expression of release and relief, ha.

Random thought #1: I really like being in my 50s! I’ve never minded growing older and I think it will just keep getting better. A lot of it has to do with the confidence that comes along with aging and focusing more and more on pleasing God rather than man.

Random thought #2: Not always a popular opinion, but I really don’t like bad words and because I’m in my 50s now, I make no apologies for that.

Random thought #3: I’m tired of our culture’s fixation on food in either direction: glutenous or overly health conscience. And because I’m in my 50s, I make no apology for that.

Random thought #4: In my prayer journal today I thanked God for the freedom as a Christian parent to confidently make bold decisions for my teen that seem strange to others. And because I’m in my 50s, I make no apologies for that.

Random thought #5: My favorite Disney princess at this point in my life is Mrs. Potts—-YES, she is a princess. And because I’m in my 50s I make no apologies for that.

Random thought #6: Although I enjoy decorating my home, I reject decorating trends and famous designers telling me it’s time to rip out my kitchen island because those were soooo last year. What even? And because I’m in my 50s, I make no apologies for that.

Random thought #7: I don’t need Facebook, Instagram, or any social media to keep me connected or tell me who my friends are in my life. I want to “be where my feet are” with genuine face-to-face relationships. And because I’m in my 50s, I make no apologies for that.

Random #8: I heard this quote from Dana Gresh last week and it pretty much sums up the second reason I gave up social media (for reason #1, see random thought #7): “Nobody ever comes to Jesus because we proved them wrong”. No matter the topic, there is way too much arguing on the socials which never convinces anyone of anything and I don’t need any of that in my life. And because I’m in my 50s, I make no apologies for that.

Random thought #9: I am not the weight I used to be and because I’m in my 50s, I make no apologies for that.

Random thought #10: I don’t really have a #10 but I like rounded numbers on a list and because I’m in my 50s, I make no apologies for that!

Feel free to share your own random thoughts about life in your age bracket!

And HAPPY ST. PATTY’S DAY!
