The Ways of Her Home

Embracing the homeward call

Mongolian Stir-Fry at Home!

August 13, 2024

A restaurant that our family has come to enjoy is Yummi Yaki. Do you have one near you? We all love it! You pick your starch (rice or noodles) and then go through the buffet line to select your meats, veggies, sauce, and seasoning, and then hand it over to be stir-fried. It’s comes to your table hot and savory and so delicious. It’s a fun treat, but pricey for a family. But since getting a Blackstone, we can enjoy them at home!

I do the prepping of the meats and veggies and my husband does the stir-frying. Everything is lined up on our kitchen island for each person to go through the “buffet” and fill their bowls with their desired ingredients.

Then we take our bowls of ingredients outside to be cooked.

The Burman’s brand at Aldi’s has lots of great Asian sauces at really good prices so I keep everyone’s favorites on hand and have them outside by the Blackstone. We tell my husband what sauce and seasoning we want and he adds it during the cooking process.

And there you have it! Doesn’t that look so good!

I like allll the veggies and meats on a bed of brown rice–my fave! My husband and kids have really taken a liking to udon noodles since having them at Yummy Yaki, so I try to have those for yaki night at home. That’s what makes it so fun—everyone makes it like they want it.

Yes, we do like YY!! Our problem is that our bowls do not look very full going through the line, however, after the contents are stir-fried and placed atop noodles or rice, it is a lot of food!! So we “waddle” to the car afterwards and declare we won’t fill them as full on the next visit! HA!!

Well you should see my guys pile theirs as high as they can! They even have a structural strategy for getting in as much meat as possible! 🤣

What a fun idea. We do stir fry nights sometimes but have never thought of turning it into buffet style. We will have to try that some time.

I think my family enjoys that it changes up dinner and allows each to customize their very bowl to their own tastes! We thought about how fun it would be when having company over but decided our blackstone wasn’t large enough to handle that many “orders”. 😁

It is such a fun treat isn’t it! But boy, eating out is so expensive. Every time we eat out somewhere I can’t help but think about how many groceries I could have gotten for that amount of money. Im the party pooper, I know! 😂

Yes, Yummy Yaki is one of our favorite restaurants too, after having been introduced to it by sweet Mama Gay a few years back!
Another favorite or two from your previous blogs would be to enjoy a slice of your delicious Italian Cream cake with a good cup of coffee looking at a vase of freshly cut zinnias!! As the song says, “These are a few of my favorite things!”
