I got to participate in something new last week which I enjoyed it so much! The assisted living facility where my son and I call BINGO put on a lovely “May Flower Luncheon” for the lady residents and I had the privilege of being a table host. The table hosts were asked to set and decorate their table with their own dishes in any style of their choosing that would go along with the flower theme and also serve the ladies at their table. Not only do I enjoy setting a table, but more so than that, I really love these sweet ladies, so this was an easy YES for me!
I decided to go for a garden theme with floral prints, birds, and potted flowers. It was a mixture of something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue (and green)!
Something old: I used my blue and green dishes, woven chargers, gold silverware, lacey linen napkins, and birds and nests, all of which are, well….old.
Something new: I had a newly purchased blue and green tablecloth topper and bought some pots of vinca that I put in one of my kitchen baskets with some moss (the vincas would later be planted in my yard). The little bird cages were intended for my daughter’s graduation tea last year. It was to be an outdoor tea in our woods at sunset, and we got the bird cage candles to hang from the trees. It stormed that day, so we moved the tea inside and only used a few on the dining room table. The rest have been sitting in their original shipping box for a year so I decided they would make a cute accessory to the table. I tied some white ribbons on top and placed one at each place setting so the ladies could have a little gift to keep. (They have battery-operated candles in them.)
Something borrowed: The assisted living facility provided each table with a long white tablecloth (I used it as the base), tea glasses, salt and pepper, and sweetener (and silverware for those who wanted it).
Something blue (and green): Well, this one is obvious!
Each of the tables was so pretty and all together they made a beautiful room for the residents. As we escorted the ladies into the room, I heard one woman comment, “This is a dream!” So sweet. Here are some photos of the other tables. Enjoy!
And here are the sweetest ladies all together at the luncheon! The facility’s chef and cooks prepared a plate of tasty salads, blueberry muffins, and assorted crackers. My friend Teresa coordinated this event and did as fabulous job as she always does. It was a fun day, and I can’t wait to do it again next year!
In my next post I’ll be sharing a scone recipe, and you might just see this blue and green tablecloth again!

Sign me up for next year! Such a special event. I know the ladies had a wonderful time! And your table is beautiful. I love the idea of giving them the birdhouse. They’ll remember that day every time they see it!
Alinda
You would be perfect for this, Missy! I’ll let you know when they do it again next year. Some of the ladies suggested adding a fall luncheon done in the same fashion which I think would be a great season for this idea. I’ll keep you posted!
