The Ways of Her Home

Embracing the homeward call

Major Domo’s Favorite Pie

December 13, 2019

If you’re planning to entertain this Christmas season and need an elegant entree for an evening meal, today’s recipe is one that is sure to dazzle your dinner guests! A structure consisting of puff pastry, creamed potatoes, prime rib, and sauted vegetables, with drizzles of demi glace sauce and Aioli, Major Domo’s Favorite Pie is a sophisticated, yet robust meal.

Our family first enjoyed Major Domo’s Favorite Pie at Cinderella’s Castle in Disney World. It is exceptional in flavor and presentation! It is also fairly expensive and time-consuming (although completely worth it) to prepare. I’ve followed the real recipe for a few very special occasions, as pictured in this post from a Christmas dinner we hosted for my husband’s office last year. Click the link for the original recipe.

For a more affordable option that is still flavorsome and aesthetically appealing, simply place a puff pastry on a dinner plate and gently tap a large hole in the center of the pastry. Spoon some mashed potatoes (any recipe) into the pastry cavity, followed by some warm pot roast (just your favorite crock pot roast) with juices. Top off the tower with a few sautéd veggies such as squash, zucchini, mushrooms, and spinach. Spoon a little more of the roast juices around the plate, and drizzle a store-purchased Aioli on top! This version is every bit as fancy-schmancy as Major Domo’s, but for a fraction of the cost and time!

But, if you’re feeling ambitious and want to give the real recipe a try, go for it! It’s incredibly delicious and you won’t be disappointed!

So, you might be wondering who this Major Domo is anyway, right? We were too! Well, remember this was a meal we were served at Cinderella’s Castle. The majordomo would be the head butler or steward of a noble family, who would run the household and make arrangements for guests and special events, and must have had some say in the menu. I’d say Cinderella’s majordomo knew a good pie when he tasted one!
