Good morning, friends! How are you doing with the time change this week? I was talking with a young friend this past weekend who was lamenting this season of nightfall setting earlier and the evenings being so dark and almost depressing. I told her for many years I used to dread the time change in the fall for the very same reason, but that a couple of years ago I changed my opinion of it by changing the word I used for it. I decided that instead of calling it “depressing”, I would call it COZY!
COZY because if it’s dark and chilly outside then inside is warm and comforting with the glow of flickering candles and a crackling fire in the fireplace. A sleepy kitty totally gets this! We can learn from our little animals, can’t we?
I think of the warm dinner on the stove and good smells coming from the kitchen where we’ll fill our tummies with soup and bread!
I also have decided to follow the cues from nature and allow myself to get to bed earlier. Is there anything cozier than slipping into the toasty bedcovers on a chilly night? It’s not possible every night because sometimes there is still work to do, but I make it a goal to at least slow down earlier in the evening.
My young friend said she loved this idea, and that COZY is her new word for this time of day. So, when golden hour hits in the afternoon and we know that darkness is to follow, let’s make ourselves a cup of hot tea, light a candle, and welcome nightfall and the coziness it brings!

Yes! I so agree and have always felt this way. A nice long and cozy evening is a gift 🥰

That perspective is a game changer for sure! Thanks for stopping by, Jenny! Enjoy your cozy evenings!

I totally agree! This year the time change hasn’t bothered me as much. I make sure that all my lamps (and some overhead lights) are on BEFORE it gets dark. That way, my system is less shocked by the earlier darkness.

Ahhh, yes I love lamplight in the evenings! Great idea to turn them in before dark!
