If you’re needing some last minute ideas for Valentine gifts for teachers, grandparents, or friends, here ya go!
During Valentine’s week, the kids and I like to drop off a little gift for the grandparents. Ideas for past years have been baked goodies, lotions (for the grandmothers), jars of mug cake mix, and such.
We were trying to figure out what to deliver this year when I spotted these pink and white azaleas in Publix last weekend. I thought the two-toned petals were so unique! Given that both my mom and Joel’s mom have green thumbs, and with spring planting time right around the corner, I knew they would enjoy these long after Valentine’s Day!
And since these beauties will eventually go in the ground, I just kept them in the pink plastic wrapping they came in, but added a Valentine bow and a white paper doily.
Since our Nonie (Joel’s grandmother) is in assisted living and has limited space inside and no yard outside, we got her something else. We had an adopted elderly grandmother for several years who loved seasonal scarves, and we discovered that the Dollar Tree has really cute holiday-themed scarves for a dollar. Since assisted living facilities usually have a line up of parties and other special events throughout holidays, the ladies seem to enjoy wearing a little festive accessory for fun. So, for only a dollar, Nonie can wear it to a couple of gatherings and then toss it or pass it on if she doesn’t want to store it.
When we went to take Nonie her gift, we also took the Valentine bookmarks our girls made at the Galentine’s party last week to pass out to the other residents. Remember these?
Well, I have the cutest story. As we approached a couple of ladies on the front porch, one of the ladies was on her cell phone. We spoke with the other lady for a minute and gave her a bookmark. I glanced and nodded at the lady on the cell phone, just to acknowledge that I saw her, but to also let her know we wouldn’t interrupt her call. She noticed what we were handing out and said to the person on her call, “You’ve got to hold on a minute! I’m about to get a Valentine!” And that is what always makes me want to go back to visit at nursing homes and assisted living facilities. The elderly just appreciate every bit of attention we can give them!
Who can you bless today?

Thank you! I find that if children make it and deliver it, whatever the gift is, the residents LOVE it! 💕

I love that precious response! I’m sure I always receive the greater blessing when I make a visit to a shut-in. What sweet gifts for the elderly – both your bookmarks and your visit. 💕
