Happy Friday and Happy First Day of February!
Around here, Friday is the day to “fluff the nest” which is just a much cuter way of saying “clean the house”. Am I right? So my Friday posts will be all about tidying up and getting the house fresh and in order for the weekend. Some weeks my nest-fluffing comes more easily than others. I need motivation each Friday.
Today’s motivation for getting the house clean comes from the calendar. It’s the first day of February!! I LOVE February for two reasons. First of all, Piano Girl was born in February (the 12th)! Second of all, Valentine’s Day is in this month and I’ve always really liked Valentine’s Day. It’s just such a sweet occasion. What makes it all even better for me is that Piano Girl came home from the hospital ON Valentine’s Day!! She was our little Valentine baby.
With my love for February, comes some inspiration to clean up my house to make way for a few pretty Valentiney things. I’m feeling the need to wipe away the dust and blahs of winter for some happy pinks and reds!
I don’t really decorate a lot for Valentine’s Day, but we are hosting a “Galentine’s Day” party for the girls and moms in our small group this month, so I thought I’d do a little more than usual. Not wanting to spend a lot of money, I decided to see what I already have on hand that will work. This week I quickly pulled everything from around the house that would work in a red/pink scheme (I love pink and red together!), and then Country Girl and I took inventory of what we had available. We were surprised at how much we had to work with! I think the only thing I’ll need to purchase for the party (besides food) is a pack of Valentine napkins. Not bad!
So here’s what we have:
Pink and red cans, straws, ribbons, and cupcake liners…
a pink floral table topper and doily buntings…
beads, cookie cutters, sprinkles, and more cupcakes liners…
a red polka dot table topper, baker’s twine, and more ribbon, cans, and cupcake liners!…
large felt envelopes from Dollar General (I use these each year for my kids’ Valentine surprises they get on V-Day, but might display them until I get ready to fill them)…
a handcrafted bunting made by my Country Girl many years ago (my FAVE!)…
and finally, tea pots and tea cups, and more beads and cookie cutters.
As you can see, there is plenty on hand! Seeing it all spread out on my kitchen counter put a smile on my face and a spring in my step! Hopefully by later today, my house will be clean and ready for these items to find their new February homes!
I also have a heart wreath for my door. Last weekend I cleared out my front porch of any remaining wintry stuff and now I have a clean slate. This weekend I’ll go get a couple of new plants for a freshened up entrance to finish out winter.
Hoping your February is full of love, warmth, and lots of pink and red!
