Fluff the Nest Friday: Laundry Room Spruce Up

September 13, 2019

Around here, Friday is the day to “fluff the nest”, which is just a much cuter way of saying “clean the house”. Am I right? So my Friday posts are all about tidying up and getting the house fresh and in order for the weekend. Some weeks my nest-fluffing comes more easily than others. I need motivation each Friday.

*****

Whether you live by yourself or with ten other people, one of the weekly (maybe daily!) tasks of your hands is LAUNDRY! Several things motivate me to tackle laundry, but my drab laundry room was definitely not one of them! So in my effort to spruce up some work areas of my house this summer, I decided it was time to paint my laundry room.

Below is the before photo, and as you can see, it was very BLAH! I like “pretty” and I knew a pretty laundry room would be another motivator for me in taming the laundry beast.

Since my girls also do laundry, I let them have a vote in paint color. We chose a blue called Watery by Sherwin Williams.

After painting the walls and cleaning out the cabinets, I hung my cotton wreath on one wall because, well…..cotton and laundry, right? Just seems to add some freshness or something.

The cute button hanger is one I already had for holding sashes and belts that go with dresses. I hang them there while the dress washes so it doesn’t get misplaced. I can’t tell you how many of those we’d lost before I came up with this idea.

On the opposite wall is displayed the brilliant handiwork of my husband. Years ago, I needed a place to hang wet clothes for drying, so he installed these hangers. Perfect! In the bottom right corner you’ll see our craft carts holding our art supplies.

I found some fabric in my sewing boxes that I thought would add some extra color and cheerfulness to the room. Right now, it’s just draped over the dryer, but I plan to make it into a runner with some cute fringe to cover the top of my dryer since it’s a little old and rusty.

But my favorite thing in the room is the painted wooden piece hanging above my dryer. This lovely angel was in a box of hand-me-down books and other odds-and-ends that a friend passed on to me. I call her my laundry angel! 😇

Every weekday is pretty much a laundry day at my house, but Friday is the big one because I like to have it all done and folded before the weekend starts. And now that I have a pretty laundry room to go into, I’m ready! Happy laundering, friends!

I don’t know why I waited so long to do it! I guess because I always have a long waiting list of projects like this. One can of paint and one new trash were my only expenses in this spruce up!
