Embracing the homeward call

Fluff the Nest for Fall

September 13, 2024

Too early to decorate for fall? Nah!!

I usually try to wait until the official first day of fall to decorate for the season, but this year I just couldn’t wait that long! My daughter and I have been longing for autumn days and have decided to just go ahead and jump in with some decorating and baking.

I brought down my box of fall decorations from the attic last week and have put out a few things each day after school, beginning with the entrance.

I added some fall stems and tan gingham ribbon to my front door basket but haven’t done anything to the front porch so that will come later. I’ve got to get outside this weekend and do a lot of yard work, so I’ll probably go ahead and clean off the porch too.

A little pumpkin plaque and a pumpkin candle to great guests.

A tray of pumpkins and sunflowers for the dining room table.

I found the pretty brown pinecone dish and lid at Home Goods. I originally bought it because it’s for baking brie and I love to bake brie during the holidays, but now I have a new idea for it that I’ll share in another post.

I’ve been trying to incorporate more green into my living room. I adore all my blue pieces and have had some of my collection for 20 years, but I rotate it with other color schemes and then bring it back out from time to time.

I’ve enjoyed working with the blue for all holidays the last few years, but this year I’ve decide to embrace traditional holiday colors (oranges, greens, and browns for fall; red and green for Christmas)!

To add warmth to the room, I purchased a few new pillows and an orange throw, but also borrowed some pillows and a lamp from other rooms in the house.

We are all enjoying the cozy fall vibes, Floyd included! He claimed the new orange throw immediately. That look on his face says, “Nope, it’s mine”.

Next week I’ll add some fall touches to the kitchen but for now the aroma of soup and apple cookies has sufficed.
We had some rainy days which just makes me want to bake. This is my old apple cookie recipe I’ve been making since I was a teen, so it holds many sweet memories, including when my husband and I were dating. I took a big plate of these to him and his co-workers at his job and a few days later I received a thank you note in the mail with everyone’s signature.

You can find the recipe by clicking here. I added 1/4 cup of melted butterscotch chips to the browned butter icing that’s in the recipe. I took a basket of these cookies to the ladies in our homeschool office yesterday because they do so much for our homeschool families. My mom had just gifted me a pack of pretty fall napkins, perfect to line the basket with.

Who else is anxious for fall!? Are you decorating yet or waiting?

Beautiful, Ainda! I’ve been debating whether to get my fall stuff out yet as well, but I think you totally put me in the fall mood! Everything so looks so cozy! Wish I could have a bowl of soup and a cookie with you!
