The Ways of Her Home

Embracing the homeward call

February Hello

February 19, 2024

I’m having a bit of a quieter year during this season of life, and I don’t mind it at all. We’ve come off some very busy years and to put it simply, I’m tired. Haha. This year will be a year for simplifying in many ways. I don’t plan to host much this year. I’ve enjoyed years of parties and gatherings in our home, especially with my girls and seeing their excitement for having their friends over as they’ve grown up. Such sweet memories. But my body can’t keep up like it used to and I feel God calling me to be a little quieter in all aspects of my life, at least for a while. With that, gatherings will be less frequent and much smaller. My daughter and I had a couple of sweet friends visit yesterday for tea and scones and catching up on each other’s lives. We really just wanted to be able to sit around the den in comfy chairs and talk while nibbling on some treats. So instead of setting the dining table, we put some hot tea and goodies on the coffee table with a stack of plates and leftover Valentine’s flowers (thanks to my husband–I love him so much). We had a sweet time as we talked and talked and talked.

My daughter was disappointed to miss a Galentine’s supper with the girls from her church group a couple of weeks ago due to sickness, which made me so sad for her. So, I was so happy she at least got a little belated Galentine’s teatime yesterday. And by the way, I get so tickled over the word “Galentine’s” every year because that is the only time you will ever hear a southerner refer to a female as a “gal”. It’s just not in our vocabulary, lol. But when February rolls around each year, we are all about some time with our GALENTINES!

We enjoyed our time together yesterday so very much! As always – the scones were the best we’ve ever had! And it was so nice to sit in a beautiful and relaxed setting and just visit. If I can make it through the next couple of months, I may adopt your year of quiet!

You’re so sweet! I’m so glad you enjoyed the scones. And I vote YES to you taking a quiet year after you make it through the next couple of months, Missy! You will need to recuperate after the wedding and 2 graduations!! 🤪😅
