The Ways of Her Home

Embracing the homeward call

Father’s Day Weekend Recap

June 17, 2025

Happy Tuesday! We had a fun Father’s Day weekend with a couple of family gatherings. Here are the highlights!

Saturday night my side of the family came for a big BBQ supper. My husband, son, and I worked on house and yard throughout the day to get ready. My daughter is still recovering from surgery and wasn’t allowed to do much which was a bummer for her because part of the fun of having company is the buzz around the house to get ready.

My son worked so hard on the patio, cleaning and pressure washing.

The kids/teens were planning to swim that night but this is what the sky looked like an hour before everyone arrived and then it started raining. It did clear up for a little bit though so they did get to swim briefly.

Ok, on to the food now! If you want a good appetizer board that’s sure to please the guys, just cook up some bite-size Conecuh sausage and put it on a tray with pimiento cheese, saltines, sweet pickles, and spicy mustard. I’ve done this a couple of times for my husband, and he loves it so I knew it would be a hit with the rest of the men. It was.

My mom provided the meat (pulled pork is everyone’s fave!) and buns and everyone added sides and desserts. I wish I’d taken a photo of our meal spread, but I did get one of the dessert counter. We ate soooo much that night!

We had such a fun night, got to FaceTime with our daughter and son-in-law, and everyone stayed late visiting which I always love.

On Sunday, since the big gathering was the night before, the four of us planned to have lunch at home with the help of a gift card to a butcher shop that sells the best steaks. I asked my mother-in-law if she would like to come eat with us after church and we were happy to have her join us. I set the table a little more masculine for Father’s Day.

This was our second delicious meal for the weekend! My husband prepared the steaks because he loves to do that, I made shrimp and bacon twice-baked potatoes, and my MIL brought a fresh salad. We had leftover desserts from the night before.

For the rest of the afternoon, we napped. HARD nappage! It was 6:00 when we woke up! That evening, we watched our favorite YouTube channels and some Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. (my son gave Joel seasons 1 and 2 on DVD for Father’s Day ☺️).

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Joel and I introduced him to Gomer Pyle a while back and he loves it! They watched a lot of episodes while I was in Texas so he decided Joel needed to start a collection of the DVDs. 😂

Alinda! Your home looks so lovely and the food looks mouthwatering! I took a screenshot your “manly” appetizer. What a fun tasty idea! Tell E he did a fabulous job on the porch! Did you get a new dining table? I love the chairs!😍

I will tell him, thanks! He was pretty proud of his work. He also did a LOT of yard work that day. Yes, the table is new since you’ve been here! We got it about 6 months ago and have been gradually adding the chairs. I love it!

Ok – first, shrimp and bacon twice baked potatoes?! Oh my! Second – everything is beautiful! I especially loved your flowers. Did you start with grocery store bouquets and fill in with things from your yard? They are the epitome of lush summer!

Thank you!! Joel brought me a Costco bouquet and I used the daisies and mums from that and added everything I could find in my yard. I love summery bouquets! I’ll give you the recipe for the potatoes if you want. The shrimp just adds a little something extra for special occasions!

It was our pleasure because we love having everyone (and a good reason to blitz the house, ha!)! I’m glad everyone stayed a while. Oh, and we’ve certainly enjoyed the leftovers some left behind!
