In my previous post I mentioned that my friend Missy has a daughter who recently became engaged. We are thrilled for this sweet young lady and her fiancé! They are perfect for each other and so sweet together. A couple of days before the engagement, Missy texted me to see if my daughter could come up with a way to get her daughter out of their house for a few hours the day before the engagement to allow Missy some time to prep for their family celebration meal which would follow the engagement. We were happy to oblige!
The girls are both nature lovers and always love to treck through the woods anytime they get together at our house or theirs, and they had been saying they wanted to have another treck sometime, so it seemed like a convincing activity to propose. Also, since our sunset graduation tea ended up moving inside due to rain, we thought a little meal by the creek would be a fun way to have a miniature version of that lost opportunity. Missy told me later she was just expecting us to invite her daughter out for coffee, but I figure why not make it into a little party, right!
We would be at the lake that day with our other daughter’s in-laws so there wouldn’t be time to cook or bake, so the day before while on our regular Costco run, I let my daughter pick out some tasty premade items that she thought they’d enjoy. We ran in from the lake that afternoon and while the girls were tromping through the woods, I packed some picnic boxes to take down to the creek. My husband and son had already cleaned up the area back in the spring and had made a firepit cover to serve as a tabletop. I threw on a tablecloth and put out a few little flowers and candles. Very quick and simple.
Below is a closer look into the picnic boxes. I love putting food boxes together! For their supper each girl had a box with a sandwich, pasta salad, chips, strawberries, and a sprig of lavender for the scent.
Then I packed one dessert box for them to share with raspberry cupcakes, macarons, and salted caramels.
I made some quick raspberry cordial (because…. Anne with an E) and also carried down some chilled water bottles.
I went down a few times throughout the evening to check on the girls and enjoyed sitting and talking with them a few minutes before going back in the house and texting Missy so we could keep each other updated. The whole thing was so crafty and funny!
The girls went well into the night chattering away and it was a joy to hear them squeal and laugh so hard. We were honored to be a very sneaky part of this sweet girl’s engagement! This will always be such a delightful memory for years to come.

Thank you so much for helping! I was just wanting them to do something simple like coffee, but of course, you went above and beyond! Jewell had a ball. So glad for this precious friendship!

My girl had been wanting to have her over to the woods so it was perfect timing! Next time the mamas get yo join!! Well, maybe we’ll wait until it cools off!😅
