Embracing the homeward call

Chalkboards of Christmas Past and Present

December 20, 2019

I love all the cute Christmas signs and plaques around the craft and home stores this time of year, and for every holiday really. But to save on expense and storage of such holiday decor, I just use the quotes and pictures I see on those signs, or chalkboard ideas off the internet, as inspiration for my own chalkboard signs. This large chalkboard changes year round for holidays, birthdays, and other occasions (like first day of school, fun menus, Bible verses, family announcements, etc.).

Christmas 2019: “Joy to the World!”

This year I’d been seeing the use of wreaths over chalkboards and loved this idea! I also needed to make this chalkboard an easy one this year for the sake of time. This was simple and quick to put together, and I’m enjoying it a lot.

Christmas 2018: “Oh Come Let Us Adore Him, Christ the Lord!”

This idea came from somewhere off the internet or Instagram. I liked how it was full of detail and flowy movement.

Christmas 2017: “Have Your Selfie a Merry Little Christmas!”

With the “Selfie” board, I set out a collection of Christmas selfie props for a party my daughters and I hosted for the girls in our Bible study group. Selfie props and photo booths were quite popular that year, and the girls had a blast with this!

At our last house, I had a huge chalkboard covering a long wall in my kitchen. I loved it! The girls had so much fun with it when they were little!  There was no long wall in my kitchen when we moved into our current house, so my husband made this tall chalkboard that can easily move around from room to room. It’s seen us through many special occasions, and even when chalkboards go out of style, I’m not so sure I’ll get rid of mine.

Merry Christmas!!

You always say that but I think you have a very nice handwriting. I know because I’ve received so many sweet handwritten notes from you. ☺️❤️

Thank you, Rivers! And if you don’t find a chalkboard at a price you like, you can make your own with chalkboard paint. Love that stuff!

Denise, you have some of the prettiest and cutest chalkboards I’ve seen! I’m glad to know another chalkboard enthusiast, and I’m also glad you like the “Selfie” board. We had fun with that one!
