Hello again! I’ve been sharing Italian recipes lately and today I’m going to finish out with a classic Italian dessert: tiramisu! I’ve been wanting to make tiramisu for a while, and so Italian night with my cooking club seemed to be the perfect opportunity to finally do it. Hello, friends! Welcome to the first of three Italian cooking posts! It will be my own little “Tour of Italy”! I'm in a cooking club that meets every other month. Each of the women in the group takes a turn hosting and choosing the menu. We're notified of the theme about a month in advance to allow us time to decide on our recipes. Hello, and welcome back! Yesterday I told how we planned, decorated, and pulled off the surprise party for Piano Girl. Today, I'm sharing the menu and recipes. A week before my daughter's birthday, I asked her what meal she would like for her birthday dinner. Sunday lunch at our house is usually our big cheat meal of the week. We eat a lot of salads, grilled meats, and raw or steamed veggies throughout the week, but Sunday's menu is pure comfort food—creams, carbs, and casseroles! Sloppy Joes for 4 or 24
Sloppy Joes make a warm and filling meal for a chilly weeknight at home, or to feed a crowd at a large gathering! When making this for my own family, I cook the meat mixture right before serving it for dinner. But when preparing it for a larger gathering, I cook and freeze the mixture days in advance. On the day of the gathering, it's ready to be thawed and warmed up in a crock pot on low. I adapted this recipe from one by Rachel Ray, leaving out the bell pepper for those in my family who consider them an abomination, and making a few other minor adjustments.
