Happy Friday! I've yet to display pumpkins at my front entrance because it's been so warm here and my past attempts at putting them out too early always resulted in them rotting before we made it to Thanksgiving. However, after my 52-degree walk this morning, I'd say we're turning a corner with the weather! Woohoo! My daughter and I took a trip to Texas this week to visit my married daughter (I'll have a post about that next week) and while enjoying some fun outings I noticed a lot of beautiful pumpkin displays that inspired some good ideas for my own home. Above are some pretty arrangements at the Fables bookstore and below are several more we saw at Magnolia. Something that ... Read more
Fluff the Nest Friday: Candle Making for the Fall Home
One thing I love to do after fluffing the nest is to light a candle! The flickering light reflects off of those freshly cleaned surfaces and the scent adds a pleasing aroma around the home. Sometimes when I need motivation to clean, I may even go ahead and light the candle before I begin my work just to get me inspired and moving. I found this pretty acorn dish at Home Goods a couple of weeks ago. What actually caught my attention was the fact that it's a dish for baking a wheel of brie in and I enjoy serving baked brie during the holidays. I loved that it's an acorn with a matching lid to keep the cheese hot until time to serve and little handles on each side to carry it. It's just so ... Read more
Fluff the Nest for Fall
Too early to decorate for fall? Nah!! I usually try to wait until the official first day of fall to decorate for the season, but this year I just couldn't wait that long! My daughter and I have been longing for autumn days and have decided to just go ahead and jump in with some decorating and baking. I brought down my box of fall decorations from the attic last week and have put out a few things each day after school, beginning with the entrance. I added some fall stems and tan gingham ribbon to my front door basket but haven't done anything to the front porch so that will come later. I've got to get outside this weekend and do a lot of yard work, so I'll probably go ahead and ... Read more
Fluff the Nest Friday: Sprucing up My Blog Home
Fridays are for fluffing my house, so it's usually been the day I like to share anything having to do with housekeeping. But today I'm doing some tidying around my bloggy home, and I thought I'd share about a few little areas I'm sprucing up here. Ok, friends! I have one more day to finish my August challenge. Anything in particular you'd like to see me post? ... Read more
Fluff the Nest Friday: Dust Free for a Month?
It seems that as soon as I dust my house, the dust just starts to immediately collect again on every surface. We live in the country with a lot of dirt and dust getting tracked in the house and I always felt like that's why the dust collects so quickly. But I remember my husband’s grandmother telling me once that she had to dust a lot with her house being in the city because of all the traffic coming by and stirring it up along their streets. So, I guess homes are just dusty no matter where we live! Have you heard about the homemade dusting spray that not only cleans, disinfects, and leaves a shine, but also keeps the dust away for a whole month? Well, I gave it a try! There are many ... Fluff the Nest Friday: La Laverie!
It has been a really long time since I did a "Fluff the Nest Friday" post! They used to be one of my favorite posts to share so I'm going to try and get back to doing them. For any of you who might be new, I'll explain. Even though I do different cleaning chores throughout the week, Friday is typically my main cleaning day because I like for our nest to be nicely fluffed for the weekend. So, Friday just seems like a good day to post different housekeeping topics here on the blog. Today, I'd like to share something I learned about laundry.....from the French! A couple of years ago, my daughter gave me a very interesting book for Christmas. Home Sweet Maison: The French Art of Making a ... Read more
Spring Flower Basket
Spring is almost here! I've truly enjoyed the last couple of winter months so much, but my front porch has seemed dead for a while. Lately, I've just lacked motivation to tackle projects around the house, but I finally decided it was at least time to spruce up my front entrance. For a couple of years now I've been wanting a door basket, but everywhere I checked they seemed pricey. Last week I managed to catch the 50% off basket sale at Hobby Lobby so I bought a door basket, a few new flower stems, and a fresh roll of ribbon. This was so easy to assemble because I just dropped the flower stems in the basket and tied a simple, flowy bow on the side. No gluing or wiring required, and it ... Read more
Fluff the Nest Friday: Norwex Laundry Detergent
Happy Friday! Today let's talk LAUNDRY and Norwex's Ultra Power Plus Laundry Detergent! So, in my quest to reducing chemicals in my nest, I've been using several Norwex products for the last couple of years and absolutely love them. But I’ve always passed by the laundry detergent in the catalog because it was pricey, and I wasn't sure it would work any better than other "free and clear" brands I get from the grocery store. However, after recently watching my friend Crystal give a demo with this detergent, I was convinced enough to try it and was able to purchase it as part of a bundle. So, I've been using it for 3 weeks now and I have to say that, first of all, it works better than I ... Read more
