We had a fun fall weekend with a trip to the pumpkin patch Saturday afternoon! It had been very gloomy and overcast all morning at my son's soccer game, so we were thrilled to see the sun and the blue skies show up for a while that afternoon. It turned out to be a gorgeous day. This farm is a few miles down the road from us and has been such a blessing to our growing community. We've pretty much got the corn maze memorized after going there so many years but it's still fun. We walked behind a young family with a toddler who was so cute to watch. This farm also has a sunflower maze which is just beautiful! Look at the color! Blue skies and bright yellow ... Read more
Snapshot Saturday: Sweet Blessings (with a smile!)
Good morning, friends. We had a week that was a mixture of sad and sweet. My sister-in-law's mother passed away and she was so special to our family. Everyone called her Momma Gay, and she was like an aunt to my siblings and me and like a grandmother to all our children. I'll share more about her in another post because she deserves more than a mention, but today I'm going to share some simple blessings of the week. Why? Because all week we've remembered that Momma Gay believed in looking at the bright side and always recommended, "Just put a smile on your face and you'll feel better!" So that's what we're going to do! I was blessed with some baking time this week. I've been working on ... Read more
Mother’s Day Fancy
I'm continuing to catch up on my spring posts and today I'm covering Mother's Day. We hosted my husband's side of the family this year and while my sweet husband insisted that I not work too much on Mother's Day, I assured him that getting to set a feminine table for the ladies would not be work at all but, on the contrary, would bring me great pleasure! I set up the dining room for the ladies so we could have a frilly table and the men had the kitchen table set just for them so they wouldn't have to endure the pink and fluff, haha! I've had this April Cornell tablecloth for so many years and I've always called it my "Mother's Day tablecloth" because the floral pattern and soft ... Read more
Spring 2023
Good morning! Before I get too far into summer, I need to record our spring season. Today I'm going to quickly run through some spring highlights and then the rest of the week I'll go back and detail some of my daughter's graduation stuff a little more. I'll go ahead and apologize for the length of this post. It's a big one! In early March my daughter and I took a girls' trip out to Texas to visit my married daughter and son-in-law. We had such a fun visit, and they took us to Homestead Heritage, a self-sufficient Christian community which is also open to the public. It was amazing! We enjoyed shopping in their many shops including the quilting barn (below), general store, grocery ... Read more
We Went West!
Good morning, friends! I've been MIA here lately and for good reason. We've been wrapped up first with my daughter's high school graduation and then left for a 2-week road trip out west!! We had a blast, and I can't wait to document it all here with photos and stories. But for now, I'll be spending the next couple of days baking a wedding cake for my nephew's wedding. Pray I don't mess it up, please! I hope your summer is off to a great start! I'll be back later this week! ... Read more
You’re a Gooood Mama!
I was a new mama to a sweet baby girl and wanted to be the very best mommy I could be. I wasn't ever looking for compliments, just maybe a little encouragement. I remember walking into church one evening with a blanket wrapped around my baby when an approaching woman wearing a concerned expression commented, "Honey, you've got that baby too warm in that blanket!" I slid the blanket off my little one, tucked it into the diaper bag, and walked into the auditorium. As I was making my way to a pew, I started to pass another lady, this one displaying a warm smile. 'Ahh, a friendly face. This will be encouraging!", I thought to myself. As we exchanged pleasantries, she wrapped her hand around ... Read more
Irish Tea Party
Happy St. Patrick's Day! Two years ago, I gifted my oldest daughter a subscription to Tea Time magazine and the first issue she received included recipes for an Irish tea. This magazine along with some newly thrifted green and gold teacups inspired her to host a St. Patrick's Day tea for our family and her then boyfriend, now husband (nothing like some good cooking to seal the deal, right!) As you'll see from the photos, she put on the loveliest tea time complete with a delightful menu served at a beautiful table! She cooked all afternoon and then set the table, pulling anything green from around the house. Each teacup held an Irish Breakfast teabag (except for my son's since he ... Read more
Snapshot Saturday (on Monday)
I didn't get my Saturday post done on time this weekend and here it is Sunday night now with me trying to decide if it's ok to post my "Snapshot Saturday" on a Monday, haha. Kind of reminds me of a cute I Love Lucy episode called "The Club Election" about Lucy and Ethel's Wednesday Afternoon Fine Arts League and it starts with this little conversation between Ricky and Ethel. Ricky: "Anything special on your mind?" Ethel: “Yeah. I came up to tell Lucy that the Wednesday Afternoon Fine Arts League is meeting on Friday this week.” Ricky: “The Wednesday Afternoon Fine Arts League is meeting on Friday.” Ethel: “Yeah.” Ricky: “I thought you always met on Thursday.” Ethel: “Oh, ...
