Easter this year was definitely different from our norm, wasn’t it? Considering there would be no new Easter outfits, no neighborhood egg hunts, no gatherings with extended family, and no full pews at the church building for Easter service, I delighted in all the encouraging posts and messages about the TRUE meaning of Easter NOT changing.
JESUS IS RISEN!
In that regard, our Easter was very much the same and just as meaningful as always! Everything else is just fluff.
Speaking of fluff, I did still try to fluff up our table for Easter lunch! It wasn’t at all what I’d planned earlier on with ideas of fresh flowers and pretty pastels. As for the fresh flowers, this past year we started re-landscaping our yard and currently have none of our usual flowering plants for this time of year. Additionally, because I did my grocery shopping online instead of going into the store, I wasn’t able to purchase flowers. And as for those pretty pastels, well, since my guys were quite gracious about my very feminine Valentine’s table, I made a last minute decision to tone down the frill for Easter and went with a spring table that was both lovely and rustic.
On Saturday afternoon before Easter, I looked through my dishes and linens, and shopped around my house, pulling items that spoke two words to me: natural and spring.
A color pallet of green, brown, and white with textures of wood, burlap, and boxwood created a natural backdrop for my sweet birds and bunnies.
I love birds and have little ceramic ones tucked all around my house. I don’t collect birds though. There’s a difference between collecting and tucking. I’m subtle tucker. I like to have them dispersed around my rooms like they would be in nature so it’s not overkill. As for my decorative bunnies, they make their appearance throughout my house during springtime only.
I’d planned to clip my boxwood bushes for my greenery, but my cooking went longer that expected (doesn’t it always?) so I used some artificial pieces at the last minute. And see the twiney-looking napkin rings? Those are just miniature craft wreaths. I purchased them almost twenty years ago for an Easter table because they reminded me of Jesus’ crown of thorns. I’ve used them for so many other themes throughout the years, but this original idea has always been my favorite reason to use them. Every now and then, I swish them in a soapy vinegar solution and dry them on a towel to freshen them up and keep them clean.
I did not do a lot of decorating for Easter this year, but here are a few more bird and bunny items on my mantle.
I hope you had a blessed Easter this year. We’ve been “attending” our church’s online services each week during this time of isolation, but for Easter Sunday, we changed up a bit and watched a powerful sermon by Francis Chan that my husband had listened to and knew would be meaningful for our worship time at home on this Resurrection Sunday. And it was!
After worship and lunch, we made window visits and yard visits to all the grandparents. Again, not our usual way of celebrating the day, but we are thankful we got to see them, thankful for their health and ours, and especially thankful for our salvation through our risen Savior!
Coming up next, I’ll share our Easter lunch menu and some recipes.

Beautiful! Green and white is my favorite color combination.
Alinda
Thanks, Allison! It’s one of my faves too because it’s so fresh and clean! I like green paired with just about every color depending on the time of year. It’s just great year round!

I love the table! Wouldn’t change a thing. Your artificial greenery is amazing! A great investment.
Alinda
Thanks so much, Missy! Investment is a good word for that greenery because I cannot even count the number of ways it’s been used around my house, from holiday uses to just everyday decor. I will always love fresh flowers and fresh greenery most, but glad to have my artificials on hand for when I’m in a pinch!

Beautiful, as always! I love those little mossy bunnies!
Alinda
Thank you, Kelli! I got those bunnies at a Hobby Lobby a few years ago and thought they were so sweet. ❤️ Hope you and your fam had a blessed Easter!
