The Ways of Her Home

Embracing the homeward call

All is Fair in Love and Star Wars

March 2, 2022

For many years our family lived in “little girl world”. It’s a magical place flowing with tule and dripping in pink! And my husband and I loved every minute! Now we’re parents of a boy which is also loads of fun. I’ve learned a lot about boy stuff including all things Star Wars! I must admit I’ve never really been a big Star Wars fan before, but I work on learning the characters (I’m still getting them wrong) and I watch the movies with the rest of the family. We have a great agreement: I’ll sit and watch a Star Wars movie with them, and they don’t mind me working on needlepoint or reading a book while the movie plays. It’s fair. And it’s love, lol.

Because I enjoy seeing my kids get excited over the things they love, I like picking up little treats with those themes, even if it’s just toothpaste with the character on the tube. I have just a couple of fun items I’ve picked up for my son lately that I want to share in case you have your own Star Wars enthusiasts. First are these pancake molds I found at Walmart to add in his Valentine’s Day treats.

It took a couple of mornings of making pancakes to get the hang of these, but I made a deal with my son that if he would take one of my morning chores, I’d make pancakes and try out the molds. After tinkering with these for a couple of days, I found that I needed to spray the molds really well with cooking spray and fill them only halfway with batter. I filled the first few way too full and they either ran everywhere or wouldn’t come out of the molds.

When they’re done, you have to carefully remove them from the molds so they don’t tear. Can you see (below) Yoda on the left and Mandalorian of the right? Ha, look at me knowing the names! Just kidding, I double checked with my husband first.

Next, I found these Star Wars Goldfish at Target. We already keep Goldfish in the pantry, so this wasn’t even a budgetary splurge. He’s been so happy to snack on these this week.

My son has a friend he plays with at the soccer field while my daughter has practice. Each night those two bring more and more weapons and toys to show each other. I got so tickled over this pile of Nerf guns and lightsabers! So glad he’s living his best boy life!

I will say that even though I’m not as into Star Wars as the rest of my family, I do really enjoy the whole Star Wars area at Disney World and the Rise of the Resistance ride–so. much. fun! Oh, and I love eating at Galaxy’s Edge. So, maybe there’s hope for me yet.

Super cute! My Star Wars fan is my husband. I’ll bet he’d love the pancakes, too!
