I like to walk in the mornings when the world is just beginning to stir. The neighborhood is pretty calm with the exception of a few of the early birds leaving their homes to head to work or school. As their cars pass me, I give them a wave and a smile. I figure if they’re going to have to leave their comfy homes so early in the morning, they should have a friendly face to see them on their way.
Now I cannot actually see the drivers in their cars. In the winter it’s still dark when I walk and in the summer there’s a glare on the windshields, so I can’t really even tell if the drivers are looking at me or not. So, I just smile and wave anyway.
Until one morning one of my “regulars” passed me by but this time, I guess the lighting hit everything just right, so I had a visual of two figures–a mom driving and a small child in a car seat–both smiling big and waving vigorously! They saw me and appreciated my wave and smile! And then I realized that they probably had been seeing me every morning for who knows how long and probably waving back every morning even though I couldn’t see them. I could just imagine the mommy each morning saying, “Honey, there’s the walking lady! Give her a wave and a smile!” I don’t know for sure, but it’s fun to imagine.
This cheerful little canvas sits on the counter of my physical therapist’s office. It makes me smile every time!
Let’s be on our way today and give a wave and a smile to everyone! You never know who’s needing and appreciating it! Happy Friday!

Love that sign!! From my favorite movie, Steel Magnolias! I know you are a blessing to all that see you.

Oh Rivers, you are so sweet—thank you! And I didn’t know that sign was a quote from Steel Magnolias! 😊💕
