Back in April my daughter had the honor of being a bridesmaid for her sweet friend and I had the honor of making the bride’s wedding cake and cupcakes! The mother of the bride is my good friend Missy, who can pull together an event better than anyone I know, and her daughter’s wedding was certainly no exception! She has her own blog and I’m sure she will post about the wedding (I hope so!) therefore I don’t want to share much here until she’s had a chance to do so, so today I’m just going to share the cake. This was the same cream cake recipe I made for my own daughter’s wedding two years ago and you can read about that wedding here and here. Ahh, sweet memories!
The wedding venue was beautiful! Several of us mamas that are friends of Missy and her daughter met the day before the wedding with Missy and some of our boys to help set up. We’ve all been homeschooling our kids together for many years, so it was just the sweetest time to have one of our girls getting married. And we had so much fun that day! We worked, laughed, solved problems, ate a great Mexican lunch, and even all got parking tickets together! Ha!
I’m sure Missy will share more about the venue, but I’ll just go ahead and say it was faaaabulous and full of great furniture pieces to work with. The bride had this cart picked out for the cake table and it worked perfectly. It’s an old luggage cart from the train station that used to be here! Missy handed it over to me to do as I pleased along with some of her fabrics and candles she brought and I’ve got to say that I had a lot of fun with this assignment! The cupcake tiers and tower were borrowed from a friend, and they made for a great display and easy serving.
I am not a professional cake baker, and it makes me pretty nervous to make a wedding cake for a bride’s big day, eek. I told the bride that I would happily make the cake if she didn’t mind the icing style being something pretty basic and then just let the florist add some flowers (like my daughter’s wedding cake). She was more than ok with the idea so that was the plan.
On the day of the wedding the florist was going to have to leave before I could arrive with the cake. I told Missy that if they didn’t mind, the florist could just leave some flowers for me to add to the cake. She left me a very generous variety of the prettiest blossoms and I had so much fun arranging them in a cascade down the cake! The silver cake stand has been used for several of their family weddings and anniversaries through the years so it’s very special to them. And by the way, are you noticing that stunning wooden door behind the cake!
And here is the cutest little married couple! These two, y’all! They are just some of the sweetest, kindest, and most hilarious people you could meet. They always make me laugh and I know they are just going to have so much fun being married to each other. And what a beautiful bride, right!
These girls have been friends for several years after bonding over tea, books, thrifting, music, crafting, and their love for the hobbit world!
And one more photo of my lovely daughter. What a sweetie!
I’ve had a lot of people ask me how long it takes to make a wedding cake and if I’ll ever start a business. To answer the first question, to make the tiered wedding cake and 288 cupcakes, I spent 3 whole days and 3 half days. And as far as starting a baking business, I did once consider that but after doing this a few times I realize that I just don’t have the time or the kitchen setup for something like this. If I was going to really make it into a business, I’d need to upgrade some appliances or rent a kitchen somewhere and then there’s the time commitment which this homeschool mama can’t swing. Plus, my poor old back just can’t handle it! So, probably the only other wedding cake I’ll make in the future will be my younger daughter’s if she wants me to, but she might like something different.
Have a blessed day, y’all! Go eat some cake!

Thanks, Allison! That’s just my go-to these days. All the other piping techniques I know are out of style now! 😂 (basket weave)

Wow, what a beautiful venue. You did a beautiful job on the cake. I can’t believe how grown up your daughter is now. Time is flying by way too fast. She is beautiful.

Aww, thank you, Heidi! When Missy posts more details on her blog I’ll send you link because you should see the rest of the venue. It was so enchanting!
And I’ve been hearing how beautiful and grown up your sweet ones are too! My goodness, it’s gone by too fast for sure. 💕
