Happy New Year, dear friends! I’m ringing in the new year with a tables cape that gives a nod to nature!
I used to be a bit of a downer about winter, but, as I get older, I appreciate this quiet season more and more.
Although there is stillness and rest in the earth during this season, life and color are present in subtle ways, exhibiting God’s promises for fresh beginnings.
Isn’t it just perfect that oranges are in season in winter? I love their fresh burst of color and juiciness, not to mention their health benefits after all the holiday indulgences. I find myself craving them almost obsessively in January.
Their vibrant orange color is set off nicely by my new green dishes, don’t you think? I’m calling that a snowflake on the salad plate, but in spring I’ll call it a flower, ha!
Magnolia branches echo the deep green of my dishes, and flickery candles and a new cream colored table topper pull everything together. I found the table topper after Christmas at Target for $5! It has little snowflakes all over and chunky tassels on each corner. I love it!
We had our parents for New Year’s lunch and enjoyed welcoming the new year with family and food, of course!
At our house, New Year’s Day is a quieter and more casual occasion than most other holidays, which represents our winter so well.
I’ve been looking forward to these cozy months at home, and a slower pace before the activities of spring hit.
And I’ll be eating my oranges and clementines all winter long!
So I’m bidding a final farewell to 2019, and welcoming 2020 with whispers of God’s nature. His creation is so perfect all year long.
In my next post, I’ll share our New Year’s Day menu and some recipes.
[…] table arrangement is similar to last year’s New Year’s table, but with a few tweaks. And I kept with the same Christmas Biltmore inspiration I used in the den. […]
