I find I always benefit from some midwinter refreshment for my heart and my home. The past week brought long days, exhausted bodies, and heartbreaking news. But it also delivered some much-needed midwinter refreshment by way of several blessings.
The first boost was to my home. My husband and I got new carpet in our bedroom! Our old carpet had become pretty worn and beaten and made the room feel tired and yuck. I’m pretty excited about the new carpet. It’s so fresh and the bedroom looks and feel so much better.
The cat approves too, yet I have warned her about going to kitty jail if she starts picking and scratching at it.
My heart received a much-needed lift when I joined my tea group for our winter teatime. I love getting to see these ladies. We catch up on each other’s lives, share stories, laugh hard, and enjoy the most delicious tea and goodies!
Sunday was a lovely day as well with our Sunday morning church service–being back at church has been another encouragement to my heart–and an afternoon trip to Lowe’s to purchase a few flowers to freshen up the front porch at home.
I took down the winter wreath, put out my transitional wreath, swept the concrete, and planted my new flowers—not a lot of flowers because I’m watching the budget, but just enough pops of color and life to spruce it up. My husband was very sweet to take care of any heavy lifting and spray off the concrete.
I planted purple pansies and pink dianthus–colors that will welcome Valentine’s Day and then ease into spring.
We’ve been experiencing pockets of milder temperatures in between the cold rainy stretches. So now I’m ready for porch visits and playdates on those warmer days that pop up.
I’m truly enjoying winter and I’m not just longing to see its end, however, a little refreshment in my heart and home has been a most welcomed blessing, and one that has given me some needed revitalization until spring’s arrival.
