Good Monday Morning! Friends, after several winter and spring months of not blogging much, I was sure that the summer months would be my time to catch up here. While I have blogged more these last couple of months, I haven’t really gotten on a good routine. Do you just ever feel stuck? As I turned 50 back in March, I mentioned to my husband (boy, I love that guy!) that I might not blog anymore. Maybe that was just for my 40s and I should move on to something new for my 50s, I wondered. Funny how turning a new decade makes you ponder so much! I prayed about it for a while and God not only helped me make a decision to keep blogging but also stirred up my enthusiasm for it again. Maybe I just needed a break?
I heard something a while back that kinda made me sad. An “influencer” who was advertising her blogging courses said that while blogging is still very much alive, gone are the days of just journaling your daily life–it’s for your business now. And I immediately thought but those simple journaling blogs are my favorite! I love the simple day-in-the-life blogs! I want to see what people are doing, how they make things, what they’re reading, their children’s milestones, what they’re cooking for supper, where they’re going on vacation–and without the millions of pop-up adds.
The “homey” blogs are my fave and I’ve been sad to see so many of those close over the last several years. I often click a link to one that sounds really good only to find that it hasn’t been updated since 2017. Instagram has replaced a lot of blogging, I know, and I do enjoy seeing updates from friends there (although I can certainly do without the fighting, adds, and other junk that’s on there–you too?). But when I read a blog, I feel more like I’m visiting with that person for a while. It’s quieter and slower.
This is a lot of rambling today, but please bear with me–I promise I’m going somewhere with this, ha! I’ve been feeling the need to do a bunch of catch-up posts for the months I’ve missed journaling my family life here but goodness that task has seemed a little daunting every time I get ready to start, and I end up looking through pics for a few minutes and then walking away. Soooo, I think that for August, in my attempt to get back to regular blogging without feeling overwhelmed, I’ll just post a little something each day. It might just be a thought from something I’m reading or a single photo memory from our day, who knows! But I’m going to make myself post something each day for the rest of the month! (Yikes, did I just commit to that?!)
So, I’d love to know what “homey real-life blogs” you enjoy reading!
